Jury Duty Scam

From the Dallas Police Department, confirmed by the
FBI and reported in 11 states so far and spreading
fast, is the latest identity theft scam. A caller
claims to be a jury coordinator. If you state that
you have not received a jury notice, the scammer
asks you for your social security number and date of
birth so he can verify the information to cancel
the arrest warrant. If you give out this
information, your identity is stolen.
This scam is particularly insidious because the
scammers use
intimidation over the phone to try to bully people
into giving information by pretending they are with
the court system. The FBI and federal court system
have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites,
warning consumers about the fraud.
