Sigma Phase

Sigma phase is an iron (Fe) – 30 chromium (Cr) r nickel (Ni) and 4-7 molybdenum phase that is formed and observed in duplex stainless steels. Sigma phase is detrimental to the mechanical properties, ductility and toughness. Sigma phase is also detrimental to corrosion resistance of stainless steel alloys.
