X-Radiography

X-radiography is the use of x-rays to look into the interior of opaque objects. The use of x-rays to detect cracked or broken bones, tumors, etc. in humans is well known. X-rays can also be passed through dense/opaque metal objects to detect internal cracks , flaws and defects. X-rays are detected with x-ray sensitive film and/or more recently with electronic/digital x-ray detectors. Cracks and/or porosity, inclusions, etc. do not absorb x-radiation the same as the metal object being inspected and thus cracks and other imperfections are revealed as darkened lines and/or areas in the x-ray film or image.
