Corrosion is the process where nature reclaims
what man has removed from nature. Iron and steel are
the result of melting and processing iron oxide ore
into iron metal. When iron metal (or steel) is
exposed to an atmosphere containing oxygen, the
natural process is for oxygen to react with the
iron, forming rust which is iron oxide (back to its
natural state).
Corrosion failures occur in unexpected ways and
unexpected times.
