Metal Fatigue Failures
Metal fatigue is a mode of failure resulting from
fluctuating/alternating stress. A small
crack starts
at a point of high stress or high stress
concentration. When the applied stress is tensile or
pulling, it tends to open the crack. If the crack
opening stress is of sufficient magnitude, the crack
will grow in size. Metal fatigue fractures leave
visual characteristic that usually easily
recognizable.
