Failure by Type
Most failures may be separated into various
category types by failure mode or method. Some
categories overlap, i.e., is
casting porosity a separate category or is it a manufacturing
defect or
is it a design defect. It can be any one of the
three and/or all three. Metallurgical failure
analysis often points to a deeper root cause.
