Dr. Jerner has been a metallurgist, metallurgical researcher, professor of metallurgical engineering, metallurgical engineering expert witness,
failure analyst
and accident investigator for over 30 years. His research experience in metallurgy and as a metallurgist at the Denver Research Institute and Oklahoma University helped to form the foundation and investigative
philosophy that he applies to failure analysis and accident investigation. Failure analysis and/or accident investigation is fundamental research in one of its purer forms.
Like academic and applied research,
failure analysis and
accident investigation requires global thinking and a panoramic approach to problem
solving. This seasoned metallurgist and metallurgical accident investigator has learned that observation and documentation of facts are very important. However, his ultimate objective is to answer the
root cause question that lies behind or
beneath each observation.
His philosophy is to investigate all evidence as thoroughly as possible in order to develop the most probable accident scenario consistent with
available physical evidence and developed data/test results. His goal is to identify and conduct complete photographic documentation of all
accident evidence in order to clearly present the facts to the client, legal counsel
or a jury.
Whether Dr. Jerner is consulting as an expert
witness for the plaintiff or defendant, or
conducting an accident investigation or
metallurgical failure analysis for an
industrial
client, he pursues each investigation completely as
an "independent finder of fact." His industrial
clients have repeatedly called him, some for as long
as 25 years, to conduct "industrial" accident
investigations and failure analysis and to assist as
a litigation consultant and metallurgical expert
witness whenever the need arises.
As a result of the experience he has gained working as a
metallurgical engineer and metallurgical expert witness for both plaintiff and defendant, and because he employs
