Metallurgist and metallurgical engineer consultant, Dr.
R. Craig Jerner has assisted injured parties, defendants, insurers and attorneys for
over 30 years. As a metallurgical consultant he is known
for giving a complete and thorough evaluation of
each incident. Dr. Jerner is experienced in
conducting metallurgical failure analysis in
litigation and pre-litigation matters, and, if it should it be required, giving expert witness testimony. He has the unique ability to explain complex accidents and metallurgical failures using simple terms and commonly understood analogies. Dr.
Jerner has conducted more than 1,300 failure
analyses and accident investigations. He has given
approximately 250 depositions and has given metallurgical expert witness testimony in State and Federal courts on more
than 70 occasions. As a metallurgist and metallurgical consultant, Dr. Jerner serves both defendants and plaintiffs. The ratio of defendant and plaintiff investigations is two to one. -
VITAE
As a
widely recognized metallurgist and metallurgical engineering
consultant, he has also served as a metal consultant to the United
States Coast Guard (USCG), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), U.S. Department of Labor (OSHA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He has testified as a metallurgist and metallurgical engineering
expert witness before several federal agency "Boards of Inquiry." Dr. Jerner's metallurgical expert witness testimony from these accident investigations has appeared in The Congressional Record.
Dr. Jerner's philosophy is to investigate, as thoroughly as possible, all evidence in order to develop the most probable
accident scenario consistent with available physical evidence and developed data/test results.
When Dr. Jerner taught
metallurgy and metallurgical engineering at the University of Oklahoma in the 1960s and 1970s, colleagues said of him,
"If you cut up Craig Jerner into the smallest possible pieces and looked at those pieces with a scanning electron microscope, you would see 'TEACHER OF METALLURGY' stamped onto each small piece." Since the
day he taught his first metallurgy class as a college senior (his major metallurgical engineering professor was a consulting metallurgist in another city), his challenge has been to "simplify complex
engineering principles and findings into easily understood concepts."
He uses simple, easily understood, everyday analogies to explain facts, investigative findings, and expert opinions to clients, legal counsel and juries.
Dr. Jerner has written in
J.E.I. Metallurgical monthly e-mail newsletters, his experiences concerning "Working With Experts" and
"Evidence Transfer."
