It was reported last week an oilfield rig exploded in West Texas killing three workers. The Upton County sheriff’s office said a well-servicing outfit was at the site when the explosion occurred Tuesday morning near Rankin, about 40 miles south of Midland. Officials did not release the names of those killed. Well owner Parsley Energy of Midland said the workers were employed by Mason Well Services Ltd. of Odessa, an independent contractor.1 The Oilfield has long been known as a rugged and dangerous work place.
There are many pieces to this complex process of extracting oil and gas from the earth. When using large, heavy machines and equipment and potentially hazardous processes, accidents do happen; people can get hurt, equipment broken, oil bearing formations damaged and money lost. Usually the accident transpires so quickly, pieces of piping and equipment are propelled everywhere, making the puzzle of what happened more complex and stopping completion of or production from the well. Metal fatigue, corrosion, faulty equipment, improper maintenance and overload are just some of the reasons these accidents occur.
With over 45 years of metallurgical failure analysis, J.E.I. Metallurgical, Inc. is experienced with oilfield accident investigation from the time of the accident to pre or post litigation. A quick response by the oilfield management, requesting J.E.I. Metallurgical, Inc. assistance at the time of the accident to provide onsite help and expertise in a moment of crisis can provide you with needed site and evidence monitoring, answers and results.
J.E.I. Metallurgical has developed a Fast Response Accident Investigation protocol suited to pick up the pieces and locate the root cause while the accident is still fresh and the site, equipment and evidence remain unspoiled.
